Our next landscape garden is a particularly interesting one. Rievaulx Terrace is a grass promanade build at considerable effort and cost, on a hillside. The grass walk connects two temple follies, but the main point of the walk is the view down to the ruined abbey of Rievaulx, another of the great Cistercian monasteries of Yorkshire. A series of cuts were made in the woods downhill of the terace to provide a range of views of the abbey.
